In April of 1958, a bond issue of $450,000 was approved, making possible the acquisition and partial development of the 8.7 acre Elm Park (renamed Richard E. Johns Park in 1990 in honor of Glenview Park District General Superintendent Richard E. Johns who held that position for 34 years.)

In March of 1962, a bond issue of $685,000 was approved for purposes of park development.  During 1962 and 1963, a portion of these funds made possible completion of the development of Elm (Johns) Park.

In 1963 a field house was built in Elm (Johns) Park. In 1995, the field house was renovated to add disability access.

In December 1975, a portion of a $450,000 general obligation bond issue was used to pay for the lighting of the five tennis courts and the basketball court at Elm (Johns) Park.

In December 1982, a $700,000 bond issue was approved for capital improvement projects which included adding increased parking facilities for Elm (Johns) Park in 1983.

In 1995, a renovation under the capital replacement program replaced sports lighting, resurfaced tennis & basketball courts, and installed sand volleyball courts at Johns Park.

In 2008, Johns Park was renovated as part of the district’s capital replacement program.
